Album: Folk & Roll

Singrlice have released their 5th studio album “Folk&Roll (Croatia Records).

In their first joint project – the album entitled Folk & Roll, the female vocal ensemble ‘Singrlice’ and ‘Sudar Percussion Ensemble’ provided traditional folk standards with the freshness and gaiety that perfectly match the cheerful mythological topics of the awakening of nature and the arrival of spring (Bog daj dobar dan, Grličica, Protuletje), while emphasising the subtlety and depth of seemingly uncomplicated life issues that are typically addressed by the tradition (Čula jesam da se dragi ženi, Deca moja deca).

Supported by the vibrant and energetic sound of the Sudar Percussion Ensemble, Singrlice made an important step towards mastering very demanding and often dissonant arrangements (Ja posijah lane). This new and dynamic approach culminated in a song in which the classical percussion instruments were replaced by the sounds of gravel and farm tools (…idejo težaki).

Folk & Roll is an album by which the traditional music of these areas was once again performed in a brand new and unexpected way, which is typical of Singrlice, and all that owing to the inspiring, witty and bold sound, which is typical of the Sudar Prercussion Ensemble. 

According to Irena Paulus, Sudar Percussion Ensemble is “the wackiest group of musicians in the region“. Since 2010 they have given numerous performances, toured continuously and taken part in many local and international projects. Different approach to famous pieces of classical and popular music is their defining characteristic, together with the innovative and witty band members, known for their exceptional talent and technical virtuosity.
